Lost Superdrive?

Hi all:

I have a Powerbook G4 and am running OS 10.4.11. All of a sudden my itunes can't burn a cd. It gives me a message "CD Burner: No supported disc burners found". I have also looked in the profiler and the superdrive is no longer listed. Does anyone know how to get this back? Please let me know.

Try resetting the PRAM and NVRAM:

1. Turn PowerBook off

2. Take out the battery and power cord

3. Hold down the power button for six seconds

4. Put the battery and power cord back in

5. Hit the power button

6. Once the chime sounds, hold Command-Option-P-R until you hear the chime two more times

7. Release the keys

8. Reboot

9. Once the chime sounds, hold Command-Option-O-F until you get to a gray screen

10. Release the keys

11. Type reset-nvram and press Return

12. Type reset-all and press Return

That may work. If it doesn't, you may have to crack open the case (if you feel comfortable doing so).

If so, which PowerBook do you have?

If you have a black keyboard:

1. Take off the bottom screws

2. Slide it towards the disc drive slot

3. Lift straight up

4. Check the connectors to ensure they are plugged in properly

If you have an aluminum keyboard:

I do not know. I have not taken mine apart.

I imagine you do the same thing (with the screws on the side)...

Good luck! 😉
